Upstream Oil and Gas Operations
Comprehensive leak detection and repair program, on-site staff training and the utilisation of advanced equipment.
Downstream Gas Operations
Rapid-response teams to pinpoint and remedy leaks across extensive gas distribution networks.
Technologies and measures to prevent methane emissions from oil and gas operations are well known and have already been deployed in multiple locations around the world. Key examples include leak detection and repair campaigns, installing emissions control devices, and replacing components that emit methane by design. Almost all available abatement measures cost less than USD 20/t CO2-eq to deploy – and most would cost considerably less – meaning that mitigating methane emissions is amongst the lowest cost option of any technology that can bring about a step-change in global GHG emissions.
